Hello!

Something about me and my career

I'm a recent graduate from Universidad de los Andes, with honour degrees in Systems and Computing Engineering and Industrial Engineering. I've worked as a Teaching Assistant in five software development-related courses, and as a Software Engineer in two internships undertaken both in academic and industrial environments. I love coding, technology and science but I also take great pleasure in arts. I enjoy watching movies (all kinds, hollywood, international, indie, etc.), I love attending to concerts and festivals (from indie festivals to classical music, jazz, rock, tango, flamenco and fado), I knit to relief my stress and I'm crazy about salsa dancing.

Projects

BrainPerfusion

Web based application that allows doctors and researchers to share medical data and images of pacients that have suffered a stroke. Users may upload, edit, visualize and download patient information (data and images) for further analysis. The app offers two visualization modules, one for stacks of 2D Dicom images and the other for 3D Nifti volumes. It also provides a search module based on Solr. The development was based on an PHP open source platform called Midas. For the visualization modules Cornerstone and Brainbrowser libraries were integrated to the platform.

SubTitles

Github

Mobile app developed for Android and iOS that seeks to mitigate the usual problems of translation of foreign language plays, avoiding the inconveniences of projecting the subtitles somewhere on the stage (little visibility of the last rows, an object being in front of the projection and desynchronization as a result of human error). SubTitles allows to download and visualize the subtitles of a play using auditory context management to synchronize the translation with the current moment of the play. To do so we used voice recognition APIs of Android and iOS.

LocalPals

Github

Web based application that allows tourists to discover a city with a local. The app aims to connect backpackers who wish to discover cities in a different way, with local people that are thrilled to meet foreigners from other cultures. The application was the winner of that semester's "La Muestra" and was offered mentoring for future development. The project was implemented using Ruby On Rails for backend development and Backbone.js for frontend development.

MediSalud

Web based application that allows physicians to monitor their patients, automating the process with the help of mobile devices. The system provides the following services: 1) monitoring the progress of patients through control panels, 2) a system of reminders so that the patient does not forget to submit their data, and 3) an alert system for handling any emergency in case that the patient's data is outside of the normal bounds. In order to collect data from the patients, two mobile apps (Android and iOS) were developed. The project was developed using J2EE, JSF and JPA.

Interests

As much as I love programming, I find pleasure in many other activities.

  • Knitting and crochet (amigurumi)
  • Watching movies and movie awards
  • Travelling around the world
  • Dancing salsa, bachata and other rhythms
  • Attending concerts and music festivals
  • Swimming (I absolutely love water)

Music

I like a lot of genres but some of my favourites are salsa, jazz, rock, flamenco, fado and tango. Here are some playlists I made in Spotify.

Movies

Since I was little I became interested in cinema. One of the first movies I remember watching was Volver from Almodovar. Some of my favorite directors are Quentin Tarantino, Martin Scorcess, Stanley Kubrick Alfred Hitchcok, Woody Allen, Clint Eastwood, Christopher Nolan, Wes Anderson, Kim Ki Duk and Pedro Almodovar. Here are some of my favourite movies.
